Ordering & Shipping

Where do you ship?

All 48 lower states. If you're in the greater DC area, our own drivers can bring it right to your door.

How much is shipping?

Mail shipping starts at $19.95 for 1 Day Ground and $30 for 2 Day Ground or 2 Day Air. Local home delivery is $15. Ground shipping and local delivery are free on orders over $150.

Is there an order minimum?

Yes. It's $75 for mail shipping (that's what keeps your box cold enough). It's $40 for local delivery.

When do you ship?

We pack and ship once a week. Sign in and you'll see the next order deadline and delivery date at the top of every page. Mail orders usually show up 2 to 5 days after the deadline. Local deliveries come Thursday between 2 and 8 PM.

Who delivers my box?

UPS or FedEx, whichever does better in your area. Local orders come with one of our private drivers, and you can track them live by text.

What if I'm not home?

No problem. We leave it at the door. Mail orders come in an insulated cardboard cooler with ice packs, so frozen stays frozen. Just unpack it the same day. For local delivery, leave a cooler out if you'll be gone more than an hour.

When does my card get charged?

When we pack your order. Meat is sold by the pound, so your total may be a little higher or lower than the estimate. You pay for the exact weight you get. Nothing more.

Pickup & the Farm Store

Where's the farm store?

7120 Jersey Mountain Rd, Romney, WV. Look for the beef herd grazing when you pull in. This is where to come visit us.

Why do I see two addresses?

7120 Jersey Mountain Rd is our farm store, and where you come to visit. 929 JR Rannells Rd is our main dairy farm. That's where we milk the cows and pack your orders for pickup and delivery.

When is the store open?

The full store is open Thursday and Friday 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday 9 AM to noon. Self-serve is open 24 hours, Monday through Saturday. It has a smaller selection, but milk is always there.

Are you open Sundays?

No. Never. Sunday is our family's day of rest.

What's the difference between self-serve and the full store?

Self-serve has the basics, including milk. The full store has everything on our website, plus things we don't sell online (like seasonal produce and fresh bakes from Esta's bakery).

Can I order ahead and pick up at the store?

Yes. Order by Tuesday at 11:59 PM and it'll be packed and ready Friday after 8 AM. You can also grab it anytime Saturday. Then shop for anything else while you're here.

Do you have pickup spots closer to me?

Maybe! Enter your zip on our Pickup Locations page to see what's near you.

Can I host a pickup location?

We'd love that. Check out Start a Pickup Location to learn how it works.

How do I switch my pickup spot?

Sign in, click CHANGE at the top of any page, and enter the zip code where you want to pick up. A note at checkout won't move your order, so use the CHANGE button.

Subscribe & Save

How does Subscribe & Save work?

Fill your cart, then click "Subscribe & Save" at checkout. You'll save 5% on every order after that, storewide. No fees. No commitments.

Do subscribers get anything else?

Yes. Subscribers get first dibs on inventory. When something's limited, you're first in line.

How do I skip an order?

Sign in and go to Account, then Subscribe & Save. Click Skip. We'll jump you to your next order date.

How do I change how often I get an order?

Same spot: Account, then Subscribe & Save. Pick the schedule that works for you.

How do I cancel?

Go to Account, then Subscribe & Save, and scroll to "Cancel Your Subscription." Just do it before your next order deadline, or that order will still come.

Can I change my address or delivery option myself?

Not for subscriptions, unfortunately. Just contact us and we'll switch it for you.

Can I add a one-time order between subscription orders?

Our system can't do that on its own. But reach out and we'll set it up for you.

Will I get a heads up before my order comes?

Yes. You'll get an email 1 to 3 days before.

Raw Milk & Dairy

What kind of cows do you milk?

Mostly Jerseys, plus some Jersey/Fleckvieh crosses. They're A2/A2 and 100% grass fed, year round. No grain. Ever.

What does A2/A2 mean?

It's the type of protein in the milk. A2/A2 cows make milk with only the A2 beta-casein protein, the kind milk naturally had before modern breeding. Many folks find it easier to digest.

Is your raw milk tested?

Yes. West Virginia doesn't require any testing. We do it anyway, on every batch. We test for coliform and total bacteria, and hold ourselves to the same limits required for pasteurized milk. You can see our monthly results on our Milk Quality & Safety page.

How long does raw milk last?

About 10 to 14 days after you get it. Raw milk sours naturally over time, and clean milk sours slower. Here's more on souring.

Can you ship raw milk to me?

Yes, anywhere we deliver. In West Virginia, it's raw milk for humans. Everywhere else, it's raw milk for cats and dogs. Both are made to the exact same standards. Here's why.

Why raw milk and raw dairy for pets?

Raw milk laws work a lot like marijuana laws. Every state is different. Here's how it shakes out for us:

  • Raw milk for humans is legal in West Virginia, but it can't cross state lines.
  • Raw milk for cats and dogs can ship anywhere in the US.
  • Raw dairy products (like yogurt and butter) aren't allowed for humans at all. The same products for pets are.
  • Raw cheese aged over 60 days is legal in every state, and it can ship anywhere.

Same standards. Different labels.

Do you sell goat or camel milk?

Yes. Along with cow milk, we carry raw goat and camel milk.

Why is your butter so yellow?

Grass. Our cows eat only grass, so the butter stays yellow all year (even deeper yellow in spring). We also squeeze out more buttermilk and add no fillers, so it's higher in butterfat. More like European butter.

What other dairy do you have?

Plenty. Besides milk, we've got:

  • Greek yogurt and pourable yogurt
  • Cream
  • Cow and goat butter
  • Cottage cheese and raw cheese
  • Skim milk
  • Whey
  • Colostrum

Check the Raw Dairy and Raw Cheese pages for what's in stock.

Meat, Eggs & Poultry

Is your beef grass fed AND grass finished?

Yes. 100% grass, start to finish. Our cattle move to a fresh paddock every day so they can pick their "salad" for the day.

What do your chickens, turkeys, and laying hens eat?

Whatever they find on pasture (bugs, seeds, greens), plus a corn and soy free feed. Birds need some grain to stay healthy, so we use the good stuff.

What does "forest raised" pork mean?

Our pigs roam the woods and brushy parts of the farm. They root, dig, and eat wild berries. They also get a non-GMO, corn and soy free grain, since pigs can't live on grass alone.

Are your eggs washed?

Generally no. They're hand collected and left unwashed, unless there's gunk that needs wiping off.

Do you have duck eggs?

Yes! Check the Eggs page for what's available.

Do you sell Thanksgiving turkeys?

Yes, every fall. We raise a set number of birds. Once they're gone, they're gone. You buy outright and freeze until the big day. Shop turkey here.

Why is meat priced by the pound?

Every cut weighs a little different. You pay for the exact weight you get, so your final total may be slightly different from the estimate.

Is everything raised on one farm?

No, and we like it that way. Some things come from our home farm. The rest comes from a group of small, local regenerative farmers. We don't want to be one mega-farm. When farmers stay close to their own land and animals, you get better farming, happier and healthier animals, and better food.

How We Farm

What does "regenerative" mean to you?

We build the soil up instead of wearing it out. Animals graze, spread manure, and move on. Pastures rest and grow back healthier. Healthy soil makes healthy grass, healthy animals, and healthy food.

Do you use antibiotics, hormones, or GMOs?

No. None of it.

What about pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers?

We don't use anything synthetic on our land or our animals. Our fertilizer comes from our own animals and resting pastures.

Do you vaccinate your cows?

No. We focus on keeping them healthy the natural way: outside, on grass, and moving to fresh pasture.

Are your animals really outside?

Yes. Dairy cows are out year round (they only come in to get milked). Laying hens follow a mobile coop and go in the barn when it's too cold. Meat chickens move to fresh grass daily. Turkeys live on pasture their whole lives.

Are you certified organic?

No, and that's on purpose. We follow all the organic protocols, plus some. But certification takes a lot of money and paperwork. Since we sell straight to you, we'd rather show you exactly what we do. Come take a farm tour and see for yourself.

Why does your food cost more than the grocery store?

Because raising it right takes more land, more labor, and more time. Moving animals daily is a lot of work. So is testing every batch of milk. We think you can taste the difference.

Visiting the Farm

Do you offer farm tours?

Yes, two kinds. Dairy Tours run in April, June, August, and October. Beef & Chicken Tours run in May, July, September, and November. Both are on the 4th Saturday (except November, because of Thanksgiving), 10 to 11:30 AM. See dates and get tickets.

How much are tours?

Adults are $15. Kids 6 to 15 are $5. Kids 5 and under are free.

Where do tours meet?

Dairy Tours are at 929 JR Rannells Rd, Romney, WV. Beef & Chicken Tours are at 7120 Jersey Mountain Rd, Romney, WV. Double check your ticket.

What should I wear?

Boots. It's muddy, and there will be cow pies. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and dress for the weather.

What if it rains?

We tour rain or shine. If a storm makes it unsafe, we'll email you the day before.

Can I bring my kids? My dog?

Kids, absolutely. Dogs, please leave them home. Our animals get stressed around dogs they don't know.

Can I book a private tour?

Yes! Homeschool groups, scout troops, 4-H clubs, big families, companies... all welcome. Contact us to set it up. Large groups may get a discount.

What if I need to cancel?

Life happens. Cancel more than 3 days ahead and we'll refund your tickets (minus Eventbrite fees).

Can I shop while I'm there?

Yes. Stick around and browse the farm store, or order ahead online and bring it home with you.
