As we transition between seasons, it's common for many of us to experience the occasional cold or flu. Many have asked about our approach at Triple E Farm to these seasonal ailments. So, we thought it would be beneficial to share...

Our top 10 natural cold and flu remedies:

*Please note, these are strategies that work for us and should not replace medical advice. Always consult with a healthcare professional for your specific needs.

  1. Raw Honey: We love unprocessed honey, especially locally sourced! This natural gift is celebrated for its antimicrobial properties that can help calm inflamed throats and calm coughs.
  2. Rest Up: Contrary to the popular idea of battling through sickness, we trust in allowing our bodies the necessary downtime to recover and heal.
  3. Nutritious Broths: During times of illness, we prefer homemade broths, soups.. Bone broth, in particular, is nutrient-dense, packed with collagen and amino acids that strengthen the immune system and aid digestion.
  4. Boosting Gut and Immune Health: We include raw fermented foods like home-made Greek yogurt and sauerkraut in our diet. These probiotic-rich foods contribute to gut health and reinforce immunity.
  5. Fever as a Defense Mechanism: While this might not suit everyone, we generally let a fever run its course. Fever is a natural bodily response to infection.
  6. Outdoor Time and Sunlight: Even during colder weather, we strive to spend time outdoors and soak up some sun. Sunlight is an organic source of vitamin D, which is crucial for immune function.
  7. Herbal Teas: Herbal brews like chamomile, ginger, and peppermint can soothe symptoms such as congestion, nausea, and coughing.
  8. Detox Baths and Hot Showers: A warm bath with Epsom salts can help soothe muscles and stimulate detoxification pathways during illness. Taking a hot shower can feel like hitting the reset button and can help loosen congestion.
  9. Hydration: Staying hydrated is vital when we're feeling unwell. It supports toxin elimination and helps maintain hydration, especially when a fever is causing increased fluid loss. We place emphasis on the quality of water - we advocate for water balanced with minerals. Our top choice? Plain old Sea Salt or Redmond Re-Lyte for electrolyte-balanced hydration.
  10. Spread the Love: Everyone needs a bit of extra care and attention, especially when unwell. For our little ones, we ensure extra cuddles and care when they're ill.

We hope you find these tips as useful as we do. Here's to a season of health and happiness!
